Gang busted for theft of PSCA installations

LAHORE:  A seven member gang was arrested earlier from Lahore by the Punjab Police for their involvement in damaging and stealing installations of Punjab Safe Cities authorities, PSCA.

According to PSCA, the gang had been involved in damaging the PSCA infrastructure and stealing batteries and wires from different parts of Lahore including Muslim Town, Faisal Town, Ghalib Market and Shahdara Town.

They were finally nabbed by Punjab Police with the support of Command and Control Wing of the Police. 12 cases have been registered against them and challans have been submitted ahead for court trials.

PSCA has been functional in Lahore since January 2018. More than 8000 CCTV cameras have been installed across Lahore.  The project has been put in place to fight crimes and monitor traffic violations.

In a meeting with Inspector General of Police Punjab last week, PSCA Chief Operating Officer shared that the authority had “secured more than 100,000 observations that warranted, as in proactive measures, interception of more than 2,106 suspicious persons by PRU and Dolphin Squad and a thorough probing of 24,523 suspicious vehicles.”  Furthermore, 9460 vehicles and motorbikes were spotted for having no number-plates or those that did not follow the standard pattern.

After its success in Lahore, PSCA officials recently announced that the the safe city project will also be launched in seven other cities of Punjab  including Kasur, Multan, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Bahawalpur and Gujranwala on “on fast track basis.”
